Baptism is a wonderful event which marks the start of a journey of faith - it is also a welcome into the local church community as well as, for young children, the celebration of the wonder of a new life. Anyone who lives in the Parish can be baptised at St Mary's and we are always delighted to discuss any questions you might have.
Baptisms take place at 12.30pm on the second and third Sundays of the month, and we also ask that you come along to the Family Service on the fourth Sunday to receive your Certificate and Candle. On the first Friday of the month we hold an informal preparation evening at which you join with other families to learn more about the service and to explore the significance of baptism a little more deeply.

If you would like to enquire about arranging a baptism for yourself or for your child, please pop into the Parish Office (see our 'Contact' page for further details).
Congratulations on your engagement!
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life and we want to make it as special as possible. Each year we hold two 'Wedding Preparation Courses' for those to be married at St Mary's. As well as helping you plan the details of your big day, we also help you prepare for the really important bit - the rest of your lives together!
If you live in Portchester you are able to be married at St Mary's, as are couples with a genuine link to the Parish, or those who have been regular worshippers at the church for a minimum of six months. Our Administrator will be able to advise you if you are not sure if you qualify to be married here. If you have been married before it may be possible for you to be married at St Mary's, but you will need to pop into the Parish Office to arrange a meeting with the Vicar to discuss this further.
If you are considering being married at St Mary's you have made the decision to invite the presence of God into your marriage from the very beginning. We hope that as part of your preparation you will join us for worship either on Sundays or at one of our services during the week. Getting to know the church family and building will help you feel far more at home on the day!
