Rev Canon Trevor Hubble – Honorary Assistant Priest

Born Worthing Sussex; Brought up near Johannesburg, South Africa.

Returned to UK in 1967 and worked in an Insurance office in the City. Trained for the Ministry in Durham and Chichester. Ordained Priest in Southwark Cathedral in 1977 and served curacy at St Barnabas Eltham Well Hall.

Together with my wife Samia served as USPG missionaries to the Anglican Church of Southern Africa 1980 – 2000 during which time we served in four diocese, Lesotho, Johannesburg, St John’s and Umzimvubu. In each the inclusion of the laity in the ministry of the Church has been a recurring theme. The importance of which was made clear when I was a lone priest with 11 congregations and my transport was a horse.

During our last posting in Matatiele, St Monica’s Diocesan School was founded by a conference of all the parish called to discern God’s priorities.

On returning to the UK served as Shared Ministry Officer for the Diocese of Durham 2000 – 2007 and then as Warden of Lee Abbey London 2007 – 2013 where Samia and I had met in 1973.

I grew up in a so called ‘Anglo catholic’ tradition and Samia as an Orthodox Copt but our experiences at Taize’ and as members of the Lee Abbey Community has enabled us to value and affirm other Christian Traditions.
